This friction leads to minor (unavoidable) damage to the cutting edge. The coating has a low friction coefficient (approx. 0.57 compared to steel). Both material types have special specifications which, when used correctly, offer considerable production-related advantages for the user. Considering the positive flexural strength of carbon steel blades, this material is particularly suitable for hand-guided applications, such as DIY blades. Here, tungsten carbide and ceramics are significantly less well-equipped due to their chemical structure. However, the use of tungsten carbide or solid ceramic can demonstrate its unique strengths in terms of service life in many application areas with machine-guided blades. In addition, the solid ceramic material stands out clearly in terms of temperature resistance up to 600 \u00b0C.
